Groth

It was 1981 when Atari executive Dennis Groth and his wife, Judy, purchased 121acre vineyard property in Oakville. The vineyard needed work, but when the couple crushed their first grapes in 1982, the Cabernet Sauvignon it produced was exceptional. Committed to their vision, they designed the Groth label to include an image of their mission-style winery long before it was actually constructed. But by the time Robert Parker gave the Groth 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 100 points — the first California wine to earn that distinction — Groth was firmly on the map.

Today, under the leadership of Dennis and Judy’s daughter, Suzanne Groth, the family winery and estates are flourishing.
